Two-factor authentication
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your ReadyCMS instance by requiring a second form of verification during login. The administrators of your ReadyCMS instance use 2FA.
Two-factor authentication (2FA) for ReadyCMS
The 2FA enhances your ReadyCMS account security by enabling two-factor authentication. This plugin provides an additional security step, ensuring that your account remains protected even if your password is compromised.
The 2FA plugin works seamlessly with the Google Authenticator app, offering robust protection against unauthorized access.
Key benefits and features
- Enhanced security: Provides an additional layer of security by requiring a second form of verification.
- Easy integration: Works seamlessly with the Google Authenticator app.
- Protection against unauthorized access: Ensures that your account remains secure even if your password is compromised.
- User-friendly setup: Straightforward setup process for enabling 2FA.
How it works
The Two-factor authentication plugin simplifies the process of securing your ReadyCMS account. Once activated, you can enable 2FA for your account, adding an extra layer of security.
From that moment on, you must provide the time-based one-time code from the Google Authenticator app each time you log into your account.
Guide
- Activate the plugin: Activate the 2FA plugin from the ReadyCMS plugin page.
- Access settings: Go to the Settings menu in the main navigation bar.
- Navigate to 2FA: Select the "Two-Factor Authentication" option.
- Setup Google Authenticator: Download the Google Authenticator app on your smartphone or desktop.
- Scan QR code: Use the app to scan the QR code displayed in the 2FA settings.
- Enter verification code: Enter the time-based one-time code the app generates within 30 seconds.
- Save changes: Confirm and save your settings to enable 2FA.
We strongly recommend enabling and using 2FA. It will add another layer of security to your account, bolstering its protection.
Losing access to 2FA
If an administrator loses access to their 2FA (e.g., loses their phone, deletes the Google Authenticator app, etc.), another administrator must deactivate 2FA for the entire ReadyCMS instance. This will disable 2FA, allowing administrators to log in using only their email and password.
⚠️ Note: Disabling 2FA affects all administrators, temporarily reducing security. Re-enable 2FA as soon as possible to restore enhanced security.
